Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell and Helen Oxenbury

A timeless classic recounting the life of a poor little duck who is set to work on the farm by his lazy farmer boss. The downtrodden duck is tasked with all manner of hard labour jobs which the farmer is too lazy to do himself. Indeed, while Duck grows tired, the farmer grows fatter and lazier as he lies all day in his bed. That is until one day the Duck’s farmyard friends hatch a plan to save their little featured pal from this hard farming life. The soft muted colour palette and detailed illustrations add much to this atmospheric picture book, while the repetitious wording brings instant familiarity to the plot after just one read through.
