Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and Patrick Benson

Rather unusual for a picture book, Owl Babies features fine, detailed illustrations as opposed to bold colours and shapes more often associated with the genre. The exquisite fine drawings adds to the magic of this beautiful story which tells of three owl siblings – Sarah, Percy and Bill – who perch together waiting for their mummy to return. The older two try to guess where their mother is while reassuring their little sibling that all is well. As mummy owl swoops in at the end, her majesty is captured beautifully in the detail of the drawings that set this picture book apart from others in the library.
