This Zoo is not for You by Ross Collins

A case of miscommunication is afoot here in this clever wordplay and visual storytelling book. A platypus visits a zoo on the day it is holding interviews for a new housemate, and one thing leads to another. What on the surface appears to be a simple story belies a more complex plotline covering language, diversity, acceptance and communication. Younger children will enjoy looking at the colourful pictures and listening to the sing-song verse, while older children will need to ‘read’ the pictures in order to understand the twist at the end.
