A brilliant book that makes the extraordinary appear commonplace. When a tiger knocks on the door of Sophie’s house, Sophie and her mother entertain their guest as he joins them for tea. The tiger has a ferocious appetite which they do their best to accommodate, and the tiger leaves happy. When Sophie’s daddy returns home to find a house empty of food and drink he suggests he take the family out for supper. The book ends on a slightly sad note as the reader wants the friendly tiger to return but it never does. Elegant, simple and timeless, this delightful story is a must for every emerging reader. A bookshelf without this title is bereft of a classic.
