Zoo by Anthony Browne

At first glance, this is a regular story of a family day out at the zoo. A young boy narrates the tale and we see how he, his brother, mum and dad behave throughout their day. However, this book is more complex than it first appears and as the reader observes the humans aping the animals, we begin to consider that it may well be that the animals are watching the humans’ behaviour too. This sophisticated story will appeal to younger children at the familiar zoo-theme level, while offering something for older children to discover for themselves.
