This iconic sleep book is a must for older children and is full of the wacky words and pictures characteristic of Dr Seuss. The text fuels the imagination while the illustrations challenge the conventional, with made-up creatures and characters children of all ages will love. The opening page of the book informs us that this is a book to be read in bed and doubtless generations of parents have taken Seuss at his word. It has a Willy Wonka playful feel to it that makes it such a unique, standalone title for a child’s bookshelf. The repetition lends it a read-aloud quality although it is a long book so you might find you want to skip bits if your little one is tiring before the end. A fantastic fantastical book that has stood the test of time and earned its place in the cannon of children’s literature.
